The arrival of the Acehnese fishermen who had to undergo detention since July 4th, 2024 at Kuala Namu Airport was welcomed by a member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia for the Aceh electoral district, H. Sudirman Haji Uma, Sos.

Haji Uma previously played a role in the coordination process with several parties related to the repatriation process of the Acehnese fishermen after their release. In addition, Haji Uma also helped with the mobilization costs of the seven fishermen from Kawthaung to Yangon amounting to IDR 23 million and the remaining IDR 8 million from the fishermen’s families.

Globaldetik.com’s observation, in addition to Haji Uma, present at the handover process of the seven fishermen were representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the Aceh Marine and Fisheries Service (DKP) and the East Aceh Regency DKP.

Haji Uma also expressed his gratitude for the return of the Aceh fishermen. He also thanked all parties who had helped, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and KKP as well as the Aceh and East Aceh Regency DKP.

“Alhamdulillah, with the help of the parties, the 7 Aceh fishermen have arrived safely and will soon be reunited with their respective families,” said Haji Uma.

During the welcoming process, Haji Uma also gave advice to the fishermen to use this problem as a lesson in fishing in the future by not violating the territorial territory of other countries.

The welcoming of the fishermen upon arrival at Kuala Namu Airport took place in an emotional atmosphere and was accompanied by the fishermen’s sobs. Several fishermen were also seen hugging Haji Uma while thanking him for his efforts.

The fishermen also told of their sadness while serving their sentences in a foreign country. They said that it was completely unwanted. However, their ship had to suffer an unfortunate fate when it ran out of fuel and ran aground and crossed the Myanmar waters.

Meanwhile, the cost of repatriating the seven fishermen from Myanmar Kuala Namu, which reached more than IDR 31 million, was borne by the Aceh Government. Meanwhile, the car rental that brought the fishermen home from Kuala Namu Airport, North Sumatra to East Aceh and North Aceh was borne by Haji Uma.

After the handover process from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Related Agency, the seven fishermen were repatriated to East Aceh using a public fleet rented by Haji Uma.
