GLOBALDETIK.COM | MEDAN – A victim of the Crime of Human Trafficking (TPPO) with the initials MS (26) from Lhokseumawe City, successfully returned to his homeland after secretly escaping from his workplace in Cambodia.

MS successfully arrived at Kuala Namu International Airport, North Sumatra on Sunday (2/2/2025). MS’s arrival was welcomed by H. Sudirman Haji Uma, S.Sos, a member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia for the Aceh electoral district.

“Alhamdulillah, our brother who was a victim of work fraud and TPPO managed to escape from Cambodia and arrived at Kuala Namu Airport after taking a flight from Phnom Penh and transiting in Kuala Lumpur,” said Haji Uma, Sunday (2/2/2025).

Haji Uma in his statement said that he had made contact with MS after successfully escaping from his workplace with 2 other Indonesian citizens and went straight to Phnom Penh Airport.

Because of fear of being chased by his workplace security, MS and his friend stayed in the prayer room at the airport. They only went out to buy food and important necessities, including for information on processing flight tickets.

According to observation, at the airport MS communicated with his family in Lhokseumawe and also with Haji Uma. He was worried because his visa was apparently expired for a period of one day. However, after asking for information from immigration, it turned out that the problem could be resolved by paying a fee of 10 USD.

The ticket purchase was made online at the expense of the family, Haji Uma also helped with the remaining costs of IDR 2.5 million including transportation, Finally MS left for Kuala Lumpur at around 18.00 Cambodia time and then this morning headed to Kuala Namu Airport, North Sumatra.

From Kuala Namu Airport, MS then traveled overland by public transportation Hiace facilitated by Haji Uma to Lhokseumawe City.

In a conversation with Haji Uma at Kuala Namu Airport, MS explained his work situation and the violence he received while in Cambodia.

According to MS as conveyed to Haji Uma, while in Cambodia he was employed as a scammer tasked with cloning data and fraudulent acts targeting Acehnese and Indonesian citizens in general. Because he was unable to do this, MS received various acts of violence, even being tortured with electric shocks.

The captors also asked for a ransom from MS’s family in Aceh of IDR 50 million with the threat that if it was not sent, MS’s life would be at stake. At that time, the family complained and asked for help from Haji Uma.

Meanwhile, Haji Uma also advised that the MS case and other previous cases should be a lesson for all Acehnese people to always be careful of various invitations to do business or work abroad.

“This is TPPO, therefore my message is for the public to be careful of various business or work invitations abroad, especially in countries such as Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar, especially if it is unprocedural or illegal because there have been many cases of this in Aceh in particular and Indonesia in general,” concluded Haji Uma.
